LOS ANGELES / JUNE 2019 – “Grease” director Randal Kleiser is bringing its virtual reality narrative series “Defrost” to Samsung VR. Starting June 18, the 12-part series will be available for download or streaming on most VR headsets and smartphones via the Samsung VR app for $4.99.
“Defrost” consists of twelve episodes of approximately 5 minutes each where the viewer becomes the main character, Joan Garrison, a woman who wakes up in the year 2045 after thirty years in cryostasis. She reunites with her family, but the reunion is bittersweet, as the passage of time has caused her loved ones to become strangers.
Kleiser wrote the story in college and decided to make a series after watching VR for the first time. “I was fascinated by this medium and its potential for telling stories in a more intimate way. I wanted the viewer to become part of the narrative and experience the action through the eyes of the main character.”
Shot in immersive stereoscopic 360 and co-produced by Tanna Frederick, “Defrost” has been presented at Sundance, Cannes, ComicCon, SXSW, NAB, and many others.
